It's all relational
(August 2003)
The partnership between Dell and Oracle gives enterprises a power-packed computing package they just can't pass up

Not just any company can claim that it has the answer to almost any business problem. But Oracle Corporation (NASDAQ: ORCL), with more than 25 years of experience as a
leader in the information management software industry, has the qualifications to back up such a powerful assertion. First a pioneer of the relational database and now a preeminent
provider of Internet-enabled software and application development tools, Oracle has made a name for itself in the world of enterprise software.
It is a natural move for Oracle to share a global partnership with Dell. Through joint product development and services efforts, Dell and Oracle have created a unified vision for businesses to achieve their highest potential in the most cost-effective
ways possible.
Delivering a complete enterprise package
The Dell | Oracle partnership reflects the wide spectrum of offerings that each enterprise giant has to offer, and technology provides the basis of this strategic alliance. One of the most dynamic facets of the partnership is the Oracle® Resell Initiative. Through this initiative, Dell resells Oracle Core Technology (Oracle9iTM Database, Oracle9i Application Server, Oracle Tools, and Oracle Collaboration Suite). In addition to Oracle software, DellTM customers can purchase Oracle Support and Oracle Consulting Services. This initiative provides customers with a single procurement point for all of their software, hardware, support, and professional services needs.
Thanks to the exceptional price and performance of Dell hardware, Oracle customers now can deploy scalable and fault-tolerant Oracle systems using industry-standard technology—at a fraction of the cost of proprietary systems—on either the Linux® or Microsoft® Windows® operating system. Dell has had particular success reselling Oracle9i RAC (Real Application Clusters) and Oracle9i AS (Application Server). The reason? Customers using proprietary systems—such as UNIX® -based servers—recognize the value of swapping out expensive, large machines for high-performance, low-cost Dell PowerEdgeTM servers and Oracle clustering technology. A clustered
environment allows customers to improve performance because data becomes more reliably available. Plus, the cost of growing a clustered environment is nominal
because it only requires the addition of standards-based Dell PowerEdge servers to
an existing cluster.
Dell and Oracle have made significant investments in the development of each other's products and services. From the product development stages to on-site installation,
tuning, migration, and support, Dell and Oracle are inextricably joined. As a result, when their products and services are combined, they offer the exceptional performance
and reliability that users are seeking in a single package. On the services side, Dell Professional Services and Oracle Consulting Services team up to deliver professional expertise to their customers.
Practice makes perfect
Another facet of this partnership is the Dell | Oracle Best Practices Center. This center is a quality assurance program that offers end users valuable vendor expertise, making their solutions more affordable and easier to deploy and manage. As an information repository that provides easy access to product downloads, white papers, migration strategies, support services, and more, the center gives customers a central location to access everything they need to accomplish their goals with Dell and Oracle products.
In addition, when a Dell customer purchases an Oracle Best Practices configuration, Dell provides the customer with an integrated, self-installing Dell | Oracle Best Practices Deployment CD. This CD installs and configures the Linux OS, Oracle database, and RAC software according to recommended Dell | Oracle best practices. It also provides holistic interoperability testing, an effective and tested deployment model, professional
services, and support.1
A bright future ahead
Built on an already solid foundation, the partnership between Dell and Oracle continues to provide businesses with solutions that are well matched to their enterprise computing
needs. This powerful duo extends the benefits of a global relationship to its end users, offering organizations the comprehensive infrastructure packages they need to yield tangible increases in performance, efficiency, and cost savings.
