ORGANISING PHOTOSSo you have just come home from a weekend trip and have 100 new photos on your camera. Rather than leaving your pictures jumbled in a file, label them, manage them and store them. Here are a few simple steps that will help you find what you’re looking for when you need it.
 | | | | 1. Take lots of pictures! Shoot as many photos as you want — after all, it’s digital. Load your photos onto your computer using the USB cable or memory card.
 | | 2. Name the series. Give the selection of photos a name! It will help set the series apart from the rest of your photo library.
Windows 7 Tip: Windows 7 allows you to assign a tag to the whole set of photos you are bringing onto the PC!
 | | | | 3. Edit your pictures. Delete duplicates and low-quality pictures. Rotate, crop and make other quick edits to the photos. Refer to the Editing Photos section for more details on how to edit.
 | | 4. Rate ‘em. Rate your favourite shots so they’ll be easy to find later. The better a photo is, the higher a number you give it. 5 are your favourite photos and no stars means it’s not your favourite. Then it’s just a matter of selecting a number between 1-5 by pressing that number on your keyboard. Simple! (Note: not available on all operating systems and photo editing programs)
 | | | | 5. Take it to the next level with Tagging. Assigning keywords to your photos using tags can help you sort and search.
Windows 7 Tip: For quick tagging with Windows 7, simply select the “add tags” from the dropdown on the right hand side and type in your tag. You can also press Ctrl-T to get the tag functionality to pop up.
Windows 7 Tip: Want to search for all pictures with your mom? No problem. Photo tags make it easy to search and sort your photos instantly.
 | | 6. Add captions and comments! More and more programs are making use of captions for a photo. This process is the equivalent of writing on the back of a photo, or underneath one in a scrapbook. Bring your photos and memories to life with captions and comments so you remember who’s whom and who said what!
Windows 7 Tip: With Windows 7, you can label and tag your photos as you import them, so they’re organised and searchable by rating, caption and tag as well as by date.
