Microsoft Multi-Year Open allows enterprises with between 5-500 PC's to standardise Microsoft software across their company and spread the cost over a three-year period.
Multi-Year Open (MYO) is a volume licensing agreement for organisations with five or more PCs. It is especially suited to a business that wants the right to use the latest versions of chosen software, with the flexibility to spread its payments annually over three years.
Licences bought through MYO are automatically covered by Software Assurance for the term of the agreement and are 'perpetual' - so, you have the right to use the software indefinitely.
There are two options - Enterprise and Volume. Both are explained below.
How do I qualify for Multi-Year Open?
Your organisation must have a minimum of five PCs. You also need to be buying licences for one or more of the Microsoft® Platform products listed below.
For the Volume option, you need to buy Microsoft Platform product licences for at least five PCs.
For the Enterprise option, every qualifying PC in your entire organisation must be enrolled in the agreement and standardised on one or more of the Microsoft Platform products.
How does Multi-Year Open work?
MYO is a three-year agreement. At the end of this period, you can renew it for one or three years - which will allow you to continue qualifying automatically for upgrades to your software for the extended period you have chosen. If you choose not to renew, your licence allows you to carry on using the latest software version that you received under your original MYO agreement.
Based on the number of PCs covered and the Platform products you choose, you pay a fixed price per desktop. The cost of these licences is split equally over three years.
When you complete your initial MYO agreement form, you choose to cover your PCs with one or more Microsoft Platform products and any additional products. The Microsoft Platform products are:
- Microsoft® Windows Professional Upgrade
- Microsoft Office Professional
- Core Client Access Licences (CALs) (for Windows, Exchange, SMS and Sharepoint Portal CAL)
There are three price levels. The level is determined by the number of PCs enrolled in the agreement.
At each anniversary, you declare any additional PCs acquired during the year and you can install the products chosen in your signed agreement form. You may also add other products to your agreement at any time during the three-year term.

Rights to our latest software There is Software Assurance coverage on every MYO licence, so whenever a software upgrade is released, you automatically have the right to install it. Even if you choose not to renew your agreement, you'll retain the right to use that software version for as long as you choose. As with all of our volume licensing agreements, downgrade rights exist.

15% discount on full Platform If you choose to cover all your PCs with the full Enterprise Platform (Windows Professional Upgrade, Office Professional and Core CAL), you will get an extra 15% discount.
Technical support included Our Enterprise option also offers you free Microsoft product support. The precise extent will depend on the number of PCs you choose to enrol, but you are guaranteed at least two free incident support calls every year during the term of your agreement.

Microsoft offer various licensing options, ensuring you have the right solution for your business. It is also imperative that you are kept up to date with any new licence options launched. Multi-Year Open Licence is a new Microsoft Volume Licence program for the small and medium business, and listed below are just some of the features available:
- Simplified Licence Management With elected software you only need to report the actual number of installations once a year, therefore overhead costs are minimised.
- Software Assurance Licences come with Software Assurance, ie the right to install new versions released. Any European language can be used.
- Simplified Agreement Management Overhead costs are minimised because you can use a single agreement for multiple legal entities within the same territory.
- Perpetual The MYO Licence, is 'ever-lasting'. The agreement expires after three years, and after completing all split payments you retain ownership of the licences.
